What We Check, by Industry

A machined housing and a dining chair fail in different places. Below, for each category we work in: what we check during the run, what tends to go wrong and what to hand over before the first visit.

CNC and machined parts

Common in-process issues. Drawing revision mismatch, tolerance drift after a tool change, cosmetic damage in handling, plating batches that differ.

Hand over before the first visit. Current drawing with revision, critical dimensions marked, material spec, finish spec, approved sample if any.

Checked during the run
  • First article measured against the drawing, not the sample only
  • In-process dimensions on the features that failed last time
  • Surface finish and deburr before plating or anodising
  • Material certificates matched to the heat or lot

Sheet metal and welded assemblies

Common in-process issues. Distortion after welding, weld spatter under paint, wrong fastener grade, scratches from stacking.

Hand over before the first visit. Drawings with weld symbols, coating spec and thickness, hardware list, packing spec.

Checked during the run
  • Fixtures and weld samples approved before the batch
  • Flatness, squareness and hole position on the first assemblies
  • Coating thickness and adhesion before final assembly
  • Hardware and inserts torqued and counted

Wood and furniture

Common in-process issues. Moisture above spec, colour variation between batches, hardware missing, damage in the packing line.

Hand over before the first visit. Spec sheet with dimensions and moisture range, finish sample or panel, hardware list, packing drawing.

Checked during the run
  • Moisture content measured at the start, not only at the end
  • Joinery and glue-up on the first pieces
  • Finish batches compared against the approved panel
  • Packing and carton drop test before the final check

Plastic injection and molded parts

Common in-process issues. Colour drift between lots, flash from a worn tool, regrind above the agreed share, warpage after packing.

Hand over before the first visit. Part drawing, colour standard, resin spec and regrind rule, approved sample.

Checked during the run
  • First shots compared with the approved sample
  • Colour, sink marks, flash and short shots on the line
  • Cycle discipline and regrind use
  • Assembly and printing after molding

Electronics and box-build assembly

Common in-process issues. Test stations skipped under schedule pressure, firmware version mix, wrong label revision, missing accessories.

Hand over before the first visit. Bill of materials, test spec, label artwork with revision, packing list per unit.

Checked during the run
  • Line setup, work instructions and ESD discipline on day one
  • Functional test coverage and test records
  • Labels, serials and regulatory marks
  • Packing with accessories and manuals

Packaged consumer goods

Common in-process issues. Artwork from the previous order, a barcode that does not scan, assortment errors, crushed cartons.

Hand over before the first visit. Approved sample, artwork files with revision, packing instructions, carton marking spec.

Checked during the run
  • Golden sample on the line from the first shift
  • Print, barcode and artwork revision on packaging
  • Carton drop test and marks
  • Count and assortment per carton

Ask anyway

Textiles, footwear, food and pharmaceutical lines need inspectors with different training, so we do not take them. For anything else, describe the product and we tell you within 24 business hours whether we can do it properly.
